With Copenhagen Islands a new type of urban space is introduced to the harbor of Copenhagen. A ‘parkipelago’ of floating islands, creates endless possibilities for fun activities and daily exploration.
The intention is to renew the proud traditions of the Danish harbor life, by strengthening the social cohesion and awareness of the maritime life in, and around the harbor.
The activities and functions of each island are flexible, depending on its position in the harbor and the time of the year. The users of the islands are dictating the actual use of the island, and what functions to have.
The project, as a concept, is launched to create a stronger focus on an improved harbor environment, the global climate changes and the increased water levels – some of the biggest problems the world is facing today.

The old car ferry from 1947 is revived and transformed into a private residence. In close collaboration with the client, we have designed a multifunctional two floor house on water.

FLOATING FISH MARKET
Concept development and design of a fish market on water for the canals of Copenhagen. With the Floating Fish Market, the city naturally expands via the harbor – and becomes accessible from both shore and sea. The intention is to establish a platform for development of urban life along the harbor edge.
In collaboration with HF Kalvebod, a group of allotment gardens in Valby, we’ve made a proposal for a community house, located at the center of the gardens. The primary take on the house evolves around sustainable solutions, and how they can be integrated in the daily use with multiple functions. Wood is the primary material used for the house, solar cells are applied on the roof, a water reservoir collects heavy rainfall and acts as a playground at the same time. The facade of the house has integrated foldable benches and tables, connecting the indoor with the outdoor.

ÆRØ PAVILLON - OUTDOOR KITCHEN
Outdoor kitchen at a glamping area at Ærø, a southern island of Denmark. Used by the glampers, for cooking pizza and doing BBQ.
The house is built around a wall of clay bricks, made of compressed earth. The kitchen is cast concrete, with steel fronts. A pizza oven is integrated in the corner, next to a bench made of clay bricks. A timber construction, of douglas fir, evolves around the sides of the house, with foldable doors made with a winch. This makes it possible for the doors to open up completely, combining the outside with the inside.
